This kitchen was installed in a new extension to this home in The Basin. The client wanted a clean, modern and light kitchen to complement their lifestyle.
The original kitchen layout was designed by a drafting firm and we redesigned the layout to maximise the kitchen within the limitations of the space available in the extension.
Sometimes it's the small things that make the difference, the details. In this case a couple of things come to mind. Firstly, we removed the angled pantry the original design had gone with, opting for an internal sliding door that allowed for easy access without impeding on the floor space of the kitchen or reducing the pantry size.
Secondly, we offset the oven, which is commonly centred. By doing this we created one large work area around the stovetop for food prep.
Because the kitchen has a walkway through to the living area, a full size island bench would have made for a narrow walkway. Rather than create a full size island without an overhang, we made the drawers in the island slightly smaller than standard. This meant we could incorporate an overhang which allows for casual eating and entertaining along with the drawer storage for crockery and cutlery.
The client wanted the window over the sink to be a feature, with a servery to the outside entertainment area. Rather than use the same splashback used in the stovetop area we used the same stone as the benchtop in this area. This meant that the window stood out and the splashback faded into the wall.
As we always say: It's Where You Live, The Details Matter!
